Now Playing on Your Home Computer: The 1940 Census

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Taking place three weeks after the online release of the 1940 census on April 2, this program will help researchers learn how to get the most out of the census by explaining the search capabilities of the census and providing tools to get the most from it. Though available online, the 1940 census is being released without an index.  The NYPL's classroom facility has 30 desktop stations with computers, so the first 30 people to arrive will have a hands-on experience in learning how to access information from the actual page views.

Dorothy Dougherty, Director of Public Programs at the National Archives at New York City, is an expert on a wide range of Federal records and on NARA's online Archival Research Catalog (ARC).

This lecture is free and no registration is required.
