According to our members survey "Problem-solving with other researchers" was given as the most popular reason for joining a genealogical society. This is confirmed by our Minisearch volunteers, who tell us that often what members need most is a little guidance on which way to go and how to go about it.

With this in mind, the NYG&B will pilot a brown-bag lunch and problem-solving session, where members may bring a specific research question or share their experience and brainstorm with other members to help them move forward in their research. Members who are out of town are invited to email questions that will be shared with the group to

Members should bring their own lunch; soft drinks and cookies will be provided.

This program is free, but attendance is limited, and only NYG&B members may attend. To register, email and tell us the areas where you need help and the areas where you can help someone else.

This is a member-to-member program, and the participation of experienced researchers who want to help their fellow members is crucial to its success. We would be grateful for volunteers Our plan is to offer future problem-solving sessions throughout the year, based on member response.
