Two Family Bibles Preserved

At a used book sale, G&B member and volunteer Kathleen Tesluk of New Canaan, CT, acquired a bible marked with the names “John and Agnes Gardner.” She made a transcription of the family record section for The New York Researcher and offers to return the bible to an interested Gardner descendant.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth H. Goodman of Pound Ridge, NY, gave the NYG&B a massive, quarto-sized bible published by the American Bible Society in 1869.

At Christmas, 1871, Mary E. Moore was married earlier that year to Benjamin F. Haskell, and received the bible as a gift from her father.

The NYG&B thanks these two alert friends of family history for rescuing these bibles and their unique family histories from the fate of so many of these kinds of records: the landfill. If you
have a bible or other book with a family record that needs a permanent home, please contact the NYG&B.
